Volunteers In Action

Employees of the Mitsubishi Electric US companies energetically volunteer in their communities, in support of the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation's mission of serving young people with disabilities and of other worthy causes in their communities. Volunteer projects range from visiting children in hospitals to organizing family carnivals to tending gardens at schools for kids with special needs.

M.O.V.E. Award

Each year, one employee-initiated activity is selected as the Volunteer Project of the Year. The organizing committee receives a trophy - from MOVE, Mitsubishi Electric Organized Volunteer Efforts - and $1000 for the benefiting charity. The announcement of this year's award follows:

The recipient of this year’s MOVE award is the ECHO Committee, MEAA/Mason, Ohio, for TURN and LEARN...and MORE to benefit Crayons to Computers—a free teacher store for needy students in Cincinnati, Ohio.

ECHO Volunteers collected and donated 3000 lbs. of scrap materials, which were used to create 16,000 Turn and Learn toys (inmates and teens with disabilities both contributed to creating the toys). Mitsubishi Electric volunteers also raised more than $3000 dollars and collected 28 bags of school supplies through its Push for Pencils supply drive. 117 employees contributed 200 hours of volunteer time to help school children in the Cincinnati area through the Turn and Learn and More project.

The impact of the project can be summed up in the words of a Cincinnati area teacher:

"In these tough times, it is wonderful for my students to know that when they get to school that they will have access to basic school supplies. You may not see it but all of what you do makes such a difference. Thank you!"
- Mrs. Donahue, Elementary School Teacher

ECHO Committee members received a crystal trophy during a June 23rd Awards Luncheon at the MEAF Annual Workshop in Long Beach, CA, and a $1000 award was presented to Shannon Carter, Executive Director of Crayons to Computers.

The three other outstanding nominees for the 2008 MOVE Award were PEACH Committee, MDEA/Braselton, GA for their Christmas for Children Project; MASH Committee, MEAA/Maysville, KY, for their Easter Basket Project; and VISION Committe, MEAU/Vernon Hills, IL, for Tricycle Olympics.

Congratulations to all the committees, because when you volunteer, everyone wins!

Mitsubishi Electric Hallway Golf

Raises nearly $45,000 to support Special Olympics and other charities

Mitsubishi Hallway Golf

In fall 2008, the Mitsubishi Electric companies in the U.S. hosted their first-ever, company-wide volunteer fundraising project—the Mitsubishi Electric Hallway Golf Tournament. Nine locations participated in the event, with more than 1,000 employees building and playing miniature golf-style holes in the hallways, warehouses and factory floors. Vendors at some locations contributed up to $1,000 to “sponsor” holes and additional funds were raised by paying to play and oppportunity drawings. The event raised nearly $45,000, which was shared between Special Olympics Golf nationally and local charities selected by the philanthropy committee at each location.
